EFT
EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE
Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT, (also sometimes known as Tapping) is a form of gentle pressure using the same energy meridians as used in traditional acupuncture, but with no needles. It involves gentle tapping on specific points of the head and upper body while focusing on the presenting issues that are being explored in the talking therapy.
Research has shown that it is a safe, gentle and effective method to soothe and calm emotional and physical pain, and to speed recovery. It can also enhance self-esteem and self-confidence. The technique is easy to learn and can thereby be used as a safe and effective self-help tool at home.
EFT is particularly effective for trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder; anxiety; anger; depression; fears; phobias; addictions and physical conditions. EFT is also very helpful in supporting clients towards their goals including general self-development such as creating more confidence, self-esteem, peace and calm.
There is now a good body of scientific evidence supporting EFT. A UK research project demonstrated significant improvements with Emotional Freedom Techniques offered through an NHS based service for a range of psychological conditions:
